Year 11 Geography Pre-Release

Fri 04 Apr 2025
Dear Year 11 Parents/Carers,

As we approach the final weeks of preparation for your child’s GCSE exams, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some important details regarding their Geography GCSE Paper 3.

The Paper 3 exam includes a Pre-Release booklet that students will be questioned on in Section A of the paper - this accounts for 14% of their final grade. The booklet was released on 20/03/25 and is about the UK’s energy security and the Morecambe Bay tidal barrage proposal.

The key take-aways from the Pre-Release are that by building the tidal barrage it will:
  • Create enough energy for up to 2 million homes
  • Create 13,000 jobs
  • Cost £10 billion
  • Disrupt important local marine habitats (for seals and seabirds)

The purpose of the Pre-Release is to engage students with decision making about a real project.

Following the Easter Holidays your child will sit a Paper 3 Mock Exam. This will be their first opportunity to sit a full paper 3, including our best prediction for the pre-release question section, and a section about the Fieldwork that students completed in Year 10.

If your child was unable to attend the Fieldwork, we strongly encourage them to use the video resources on the geography.outwood.com website and fieldwork summary sheet on their google classroom.

To support your child with their revision in the Easter holidays, we are offering 2 online revision sessions that students will be able to access through their google classroom:

  • Tuesday 8th April (3pm - 4pm) Paper 1 Masterclass
  • Tuesday 15th April (3pm - 4pm) Paper 3 Fieldwork Masterclass

Please sign up for these sessions using a form (also on your child's geography google classroom).

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child succeed in their Geography GCSE. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our department at f.leavy@cityfields.outwood.com

Yours faithfully,
Fran Leavy
